Hi, I’m CARLEEN SHANKLE.

Thank you for visiting me here. I would be honored to be of healing service to you through yoga, vedic chanting and meditation. Here is my personal journey in this practice. You will find my standard bio below.

My first introduction to yoga was through my mother and aunt. I was blessed to have examples early on in my life, but was determined to find my own place in the practice. I learned in College through taking classes that there was a natural connection, but it was still a gradual process. I began to explore other styles of yoga before committing to a training.

I was then called to move to New York from North Carolina in 2009, during the height of the recession where it was becoming challenging to find work. It was then I took a leap of faith and decided to join a 200 hr Yoga Training course with Director of The Yoga School New York, Guta Hedewig. Yoga Therapist and Teacher in the Krishnamacharya tradition under TKV Desikachar.

This was the true beginning of my commitment and discipline in the practice of yoga. I was fortunate to receive teachings that stem from this lineage. In my training I was introduced to Iyengar, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Meditation and Vedic Chanting (Sanskrit). I was immediately drawn to Chanting with my musical background as a Recording Artist and Singer-Songwriter.

After my training I began teaching my friends and family, building my confidence to teach in new communities. I eventually started out in small studios and gym settings building relationships and learning more about myself as a teacher. It has been gradual in finding my authentic voice and movement in the practice of yoga and I am still exploring. After years of teaching and practicing, I started to incorporate my love for dance and music in the practice. I have created a style called “Pulse”. It is still rooted in the foundation of Vinyasa but with a dynamic/rhythmic approach, giving yogis an opportunity to feel free and to have fun.

This is the essence of this practice. The freedom and love we can give ourselves to express through movement and breath, which has the opportunity for strengthening/mending relationships and bringing us deeper into shifting and challenging our perceptions as individuals. This is the passion and energy that I will continuously bring to my offerings.
